Shade Tree Trot 5K

The seventh annual Shade Tree Trot 5K, presented by SunTrust, will take place on Saturday, April 18 at 8 a.m. The Shade Tree Trot gives the Nashville community an opportunity to get fit this spring and support an important healthcare resource for the city’s uninsured population.

Shade Tree Clinic is a free health clinic run by Vanderbilt medical students. The clinic strives to be the medical home for many Nashville residents with limited resources by providing exemplary care for acute & chronic illnesses, legal services, social work consultations, and health education.

The race culminates yearly fundraising efforts to provide financial support for the Shade Tree Clinic’s approximately $100,000 annual operating expenses, and it also aims to raise awareness about the clinic and its mission among the Nashville and Vanderbilt communities. The Shade Tree Trot 5K is the single largest fundraising event for the Clinic, with last year’s race raising more than $50,000. As the clinic has grown, so has the Trot, and this year’s race promises to be bigger and better than ever, with live music, food trucks, and great prizes for winners in each age group.

Registration and start for the Saturday, April 18, Shade Tree Trot 5K race will be held at the Vanderbilt University Football Stadium (Gate 2), at the corner of Jess Neely Drive and Natchez Trace beginning at 6:30 a.m. The race beings at 8 a.m.

The Nashville Striders, middle Tennessee's largest running club, will be providing race management support and ChampionChip Timing for this year's event. Numerous area non-profit organizations have engaged the services of the Nashville Striders to provide this role for their annual events.
