Stephen Miahky and Cornelia Heard, violins, John Kochanowski, viola, Felix Wang, cello
The Blair String Quartet will present three masterful works, each representing its composer’s unique and mature voice. Mozart’s sunny K. 575 is the first of the “Prussian Quartets,” dedicated to King Friedrich Wilhelm II who was himself an amateur cellist. Written in 1910, Berg’s Op. 3 Quartet is one of his first formative works. Wrought with heartfelt expression, it finds itself rooted in late Romanticism, but pulled forward toward more complex harmonies. The concert concludes with Mendelssohn’s joyful Op. 44 E-flat quartet, a work as exuberant as any he composed.
Presented with gratitude to Mark Dalton for his generous support of the Blair School
