As the Nashville Jazz Workshop (NJW) has had to close its doors for live performances, it continues to provide the community with jazz instruction and performances through online offerings. Each Wednesday evening the NJW offers a YouTube stream of a live home concert (Jazz From Home) or a recording of a past concert performed live in the Jazz Cave (From The Archives).

August 2020 is the Centennial of Women’s Suffrage in the United States, achieved in 1920 through the 19th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. In commemoration, the NJW is devoting its August streaming offerings to the work of women artists. All Wednesday streams take place at 7pm CDT on the NJW’s YouTube channel, youtube.com/nashvillejazz.

Tonight features music with Sofia Goodman.

Sofia is an up-an-coming drummer who brought her contemporary jazz/funk/fusion band to the Jazz Cave in January 2019 for an installment in the B-Side Social series. A gifted composer as well as instrumentalist, Sofia and the band present a hard-driving set with a deep groove, including original material and contemporary tunes by the likes of Roy Ayers and Hiromi.
