The Country Music Hall of Fame® and Museum holds weekly Songwriter Sessions streamed on the museum’s website. Viewers hear from the talents behind country music’s biggest hits.
North Carolina writers BJ Barham, Jonathan Byrd and Sarah Siskind shared stories and songs inspired by their home state in a 2019 Songwriter Session presented in partnership with the Americana Music Association. Barham is the front man and primary songwriter of American Aquarium. The band’s recent albums include Things Change (2019) and Lamentations (2020). In 2016, Barham released his solo debut, Rockingham, a collection of songs exploring small town life and rural America, inspired by his hometown of Reidsville, North Carolina. Byrd, a seventh-generation Carolinian, has released eleven eclectic and wide-ranging albums, including 2018’s Jonathan Byrd & The Pickup Cowboys. Siskind has written songs recorded by Alison Krauss, Molly Tuttle, Wynonna and Country Music Hall of Fame member Randy Travis, as well as twenty-one songs for the television series Nashville. In 2020, she released her seventh album, Modern Appalachia.
