Stupendous Space Art Workshop
Join Paper & Ink Arts for this fun, space-themed kids’ art workshop.
Symmetrical Paper Aliens:
Symmetry and organic shapes are covered in this fun, space-themed project. After folding colored paper hot-dog style, students will use curvy, organic lines to draw something that resembles half a head, half a body, arms, legs, etc. Then they will cut out their drawing and unfold it to reveal a symmetrical alien shape. Students will glue their alien onto paper in a contrasting color, then decorate it with paper scraps, glitter, tissue paper, patterned scrapbooking paper, and more. This session will run from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. and is intended for students at a Beginner level.
In this session, students will begin by using blue, purple, pink, and white oil pastels to draw a spiral galaxy on black paper. Next, they will cut ragged mountain tops from black paper and paste them at the bottom of the page. Students will select from a collection of pre-painted and colored paper scraps, then use circle templates to cut out planets. They will create a dark and light side of their planets by blending black chalk along one side of each circle. Students will finish by gluing their planets atop their spiral galaxy, and adding stars with glitter glue. This session will run from 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. and is intended for students at an Advanced level.
