Since 1985, the Nashville Symphony Ball has been the South’s premier winter white-tie gala. This elegant evening of dinner, drinks and dancing in the stunning setting of Schermerhorn Symphony Center includes a Nashville Symphony performance and presentation of the Harmony Award to an influential entertainer.

Zang Toi has been announced as the featured designer.

Toi’s Fall 2019 America Collection will also be featured during a Trunk Show hosted by Gus Mayer on August 20-21, 2019. The designer will be in Nashville for the two-day event, and Gus Mayer will donate a portion of sales from the Trunk Show to the Symphony.

Toi’s award-winning, 30-year career has been defined by a tradition of elegant designs and a passion for timeless beauty. Born in the small village of Kuala Krai in Kelantan, Malaysia, he came to New York City at the age of 20 to study at the distinguished Parsons School of Design. In 1989, he opened his atelier – quickly becoming one of the first Asian designers championed by renowned fashion editor Anna Wintour – and also received the prestigious Mouton Cadet Young Designer of the Year award, which annually recognizes the top young fashion designer in the United States.

Since then, he has dressed Hollywood celebrities such as Sharon Stone, Elizabeth Taylor, Farrah Fawcett, Kristie Alley, Patti LaBelle, Gong Li, Eva Longoria and Heather Graham, and created luxurious looks for philanthropists and royalty, including Melinda Gates and Saudi Princess Haifa Bandar Al Saud. An avid philanthropist himself, Toi has also raised more than $700,000 for the fight against cancer.

Kelsea Ballerini will receive the 2019 Nashville Symphony Harmony Award.

Ballerini will receive the award and perform during the ball. Presented annually by the Symphony and selected by a dedicated committee, the Harmony Award recognizes individuals who exemplify the harmonious spirit of Nashville’s musical community. She will perform at the event.

Country music artists Runaway June will be the featured entertainment.

Lauded by Billboard as the “Next Hot Trend in Country Music” and likened to a “Dixie Chicks for a new generation,” Runaway June’s organic three-part harmonies and ringing strings have solidified their status as a top new group thanks to their “inescapable talent” ( The BBR Music Group/Wheelhouse Records act is comprised of Naomi Cooke (lead vocals, guitar), Hannah Mulholland (vocals, mandolin) and Jennifer Wayne (vocals, guitar), and has received rave critical notices from Rolling Stone Country, The Huffington Post, People and countless others.

Symphony president and CEO Alan D. Valentine will be presented with an honorary Harmony Award at the event, in recognition of his 20-plus years of service to the organization and the Middle Tennessee community.
