The Benefits of the Awakening Mind: Freeing Oneself from Suffering

Tara Buddhist Center resident teacher Geshe Lharampa Ngawang Gyaltsen was born in 1977.  At the age of nine, he was ordained as a monk at the Zingchi monastery where he studied monastic subjects and dharma rituals. At the age of fourteen, he enrolled at Sera monastery, one of the three great monastic seats in Lhasa, training there in epistemology and reasoning. He joined Sera Jey monastic university in South India, where he studied the five Indian treatises at the core of the Geluk monatic curriculum, covering metaphysics and cosmology, epistemology, Madhyamaka philosophy, the path to buddhahood, and monastic precepts.  After completing his examinations in 2019, he was awarded the highest academic degree in the Geluk system, that of Geshe Lharampa. He then went on to study tantric theory and practice at Gyumey Tantric University, where he finished at the top of his class.

English translator Thupten Gyaltsen is a former monk and student of Khangser Rinpoche. He has studied Buddhist philosophy more than 8 years at Sera Jey monastery and also completed 3 year long extensive training in translation. He has served as the translator for many eminent scholars during their public teachings and also translated ” An Appeal to the World” by His Holiness the Dalai Lama into Tibetan language. He is currently working on few translation projects including translating Wangmang Kunchok Gyaltsen’s material on Mind and Mental factors into English.
