The Dairy Daughters

Raised on dairy farms and country music, Shelby Dressel and Megan Gertken form a Nashville-based country duo called the Dairy Daughters.
Shelby grew up in Avon Park, Florida. Born into a musical family, she started singing and playing guitar at a young age. When she was 18, she auditioned for Season 9 of American Idol, making it into the Top 46. That success led to an appearance and performance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show. She’s opened for acts as diverse as Sammy Kershaw, Chris Young and Boston. After gaining that national exposure, she moved to Nashville, Tennessee to further pursue her musical dreams.
Megan Gertken grew up just outside of Albany, Minnesota, playing music at age seven. She began on piano and picked up the fiddle around age nine. Megan and her sister started playing classical music which led to fiddle contests, weddings and other events around Minnesota. After moving to Nashville at 19, she had the opportunity to play the Ryman stage and open for Terri Clark and Kris Kristofferson. In 2013 she toured with America’s Got Talent artist Fernando Varela, traveling the US playing classical music.
Shelby and Megan met in Nashville, playing music together at one of the city’s main attractions, Tootsie’s Orchid Lounge. They soon began writing songs together that lyrically portray their view of life, love and self image. Reflecting their roots and influences, the Dairy Daughters have a sound uniquely their own. Look for their first single and video, “Tomboy,” which was released late 2017, with appearances in clubs and festivals throughout the Southeast to follow.
They perform tonight at Puckett’s Franklin!
