In celebration of May’s National Preservation Month, the historic Franklin Theatre presents “Pay What You Can” showings of the 2001 movie about The Majestic – a historic movie palace that gets restored and helps return joy to a small town.
(Synopsis) In this Frank Capra-esque drama set during the 1950s blacklist, a young, ambitious Hollywood screenwriter (Jim Carrey) loses his job and his identity, only to find new courage, love and the power of conviction in the heart of a small town. Carrey’s character suffers amnesia and is mistaken for a soldier presumed dead in the war. Directed by Academy Award nominee Frank Darabont (The Green Mile; The Shawshank Redemption).
