Thomas Maupin, Master Buckdancer

Presented by Williamson County Public Library at Williamson County Public Library, Franklin TN

Jun 26 2018
Thomas Maupin, Master Buckdancer

Thomas Maupin is the next artist to perform at this library this summer in conjunction with the library and Southern Trace Songwriters. These concerts are part of the Summer Reading Program for Grown-ups.

Thomas Maupin was raised in a farming family in Eagleville known for dancers, in a time when community square dances were still common. He was an exceptional dancer from an early age, but it was not until middle age that Thomas gained notoriety for his buckdancing talent and innovations, when he began entering dance competitions at traditional music events, beginning in the 1970s. Over the years, he won over 60 championships throughout Tennessee and the South. Now, Thomas wants to inspire new generations with his dance heritage through exhibition performances, workshops, and teaching, often accompanied by his grandson Daniel Rothwell, who’s developed into a fine old-time banjo player. In 2011 he earned the Tennessee Governor’s Folklife Heritage Award, and in 2017, he received the National Endowment for the Arts National Heritage Fellowship.

Southern Trace Songwriters is a full service booking, promotion, and management company. To date, Don has been able to garner studio time in legendary studios such as Castle Studios, and Sound Emporium in Nashville TN for his artists, book his artists in various venues around the country, as well as receive radio play and live interviews.
