Omne trium perfectum, in Latin, means that every set of three is complete. This concert will feature choral works organized as sets of three, beginning with the five-part motets for lute, basso continuo, and choir by Dutch composer Jan Pieterszoon Sweelinck. The Chorale and Symphonic Choir will also present the Trois Chansons of Maurice Ravel and Claude Debussy — interestingly, the only choral music each composer ever wrote for mixed a cappella voices. You will also hear Blair professor Michael Slayton’s Three Settings of Ezra Pound for choir and string quartet, Jeffery Van’s A Procession Winding Around Me for guitar and choir, and Three Songs of Faith by Eric Whitacre.
