The 5K is about walking or running together as a community!
The West Nashville Dream Center’s food ministry houses and mobilizes both perishable and non-perishable groceries, daily, and provides meals for our neighboring families from these donations as well. In 2017, we developed partnerships with several grocery stores that allow us to provide meals and groceries for upwards of 400 people a week.
One of the ways we build awareness of our center and our neighborhood needs is our 5K run/walk in May each year. Participation in the 5K brings positive support to our community, celebrating the families we serve. We start and end the race at our center and finish the event with a block party to congratulate our participants. Our 5K is one of the most unique races in Nashville. For the first 3 years, there was no entry fee to participate. This opened the door for participants from all demographics. We encouraged those participating to bring a bag of food with them on race day to donate to our food bank. The food donated at this event has provided non-perishable goods for our food ministry for 6+ months in years past.
In 2018, no entry fee was offered until January 31st, 2018 to encourage early registration, sticking to our goal of making this race accessible to all. Those who received this deal are asked to bring a bag of food with them on race day, like in years past. Registration is now $35, including a t-shirt, and nearly 800 individuals are already signed up for the race making it one of the largest 5K races in Nashville.
