The works of wife and husband artists, Heather Jones and Jeffrey Cortland Jones, will be on display at the Volunteer State Community College Art Gallery in August and September, opening the fall season for the gallery. The Ohio couple have shown their pieces nationally and internationally. They both make extensive use of colors with his pieces often paint on panels and her creations in fabric
Heather Jones is a three-time winner of the Project Modern Quilt Design competition. Her work has been exhibited nationally and internationally including New York, NY; Miami, FL; Melbourne, Australia; and Kiev, Ukraine. “My work explores the formal possibilities of color and shape, often through geometric and striped compositions. I am drawn to fabric, to its familiarity, its inherent qualities of saturated color and textural luminosity, and its invitation to be touched. Fabric reflects, captures, and interacts with light in a way that no paint can.”
Jeffrey Cortland Jones is represented by a number of galleries world-wide including: Columbus, Ohio; Dallas; Seattle; New York; Brisbane, Australia; and Edinburgh, Scotland. “I am interested in locating, apprehending, then releasing the resistance of a color then surrendering to it a hard edge as it softens; the slight peeking that come from covering and layering that space between the wall and object.”
