Yemenite Jewish Dance Workshop
In this workshop you will learn the dance of Oreet’s ethnic background – Israeli Yemenite heritage. Oreet will explain why they were the artisans of Yemen – developing and perfecting their art, music and dance, along with keeping the original traditions of the ancient Jews of Judea (Israel).
You’ll experience nuanced foot work in their dance, head and hand gestures, and in the instruments they used. Oreet sincerely hopes to enlighten you about this lesser known group of people that has made a significant impact in Israeli culture today.
Oreet has over 25 years of experience in fitness and dance. She grew up with Yemeni folk and Oriental dance and has a degree in Contemporary Dance from SUNY College at Brockport.
Her dance fitness workout, SharQuí, has been featured on NBC, ABC, CBS and CNN, among other outlets, and she has won awards for her Middle Eastern dance styles.
