Located in Franklin, the Historic Carnton is a private nonprofit historic site featuring a restored antebellum home, a recreated one-acre 1847 garden, slave quarters, smokehouse, springhouse and the adjacent Confederate and family cemetery. Home of “The Widow of the South,” Carnton was a field hospital after the 1864 Battle of Franklin. Tours available.
The Battle of Franklin Trust: Carter House & Carnton is dedicated to a better understanding of the five bloodiest hours of the American Civil War. Two historic landmarks witnessed the carnage firsthand: The Carter House and Carnton.
Carnton, Carter House and Rippavilla are managed by The Battle of Franklin Trust. The mission of The Battle of Franklin Trust is to preserve, understand, and interpret the story of a people forever impacted by the American Civil War. The Battle of Franklin Trust is a 501(c)(3) organization.
