Chateau West seems one of the most unlikely of quiet, refined French dining spots. It stands near a busy interstate exchange in a converted spot formerly the home to a chain pancakes joint and a sushi spot. Opened in early 2014 by restaurateur Huseyin Ustankaya (Anatolia), Chateau West succeeds with menu of classic French favorites that aren’t seen much anymore. Think coq au vin, Boeuf Bourguignon, chateaubriand, and fondue.

Full bar. Full bar. Serving lunch 11 am-3 pm Mon-Sat, dinner 3-11 pm Mon-Sat, 3-10 pm Sun. Sat-Sun brunch 11 am-3 pm. Happy hour drink specials 4-6 pm daily and food specials throughout the week.

MUST EATS: French onion soup, le tartare de bouef, Loup de Mer, Duck Chambord

“With its arched-beam ceiling, white linen-draped tables, high-back cushioned chairs and leather-bound menus, Chateau West is a French restaurant that takes its cues from another era. In terms of ambiance, service and menu offerings, dining at Chateau West reminds me of places that I visited in France in the 1970s — and there’s real charm in that.”
