The Maury County Senior Center was dedicated on December 9, 1979. The senior center movement was started in Columbia, Tennessee in 1961 by Reverend James Taylor, Riverside Methodist Church. Reverend Taylor organized his church and the community into a senior citizens club.
In 1974 the City of Columbia established a Human Resource Agency, which took advantage of State and Federal funding. … The National Guard Armory was the first site chosen, which was arranged by Mayor Morgan. Through generous contributions by the City of Columbia, the County Court, and the community the center was relocated to its present site.
