The Shelby Bottoms Nature Center is an environmental education and recreation facility of the Nashville Metropolitan Board of Parks and Recreation. The Nature Center is a place where people can enjoy learning about our natural and urban landscape, the flora and fauna that call it home, the cultural history of the area, and the many complex interactions of what we so simply call “nature.” It is a place to learn (or remember!) that we are a part of nature and not apart from it.
Shelby Bottoms Nature Center:
— Provides a great starting point for exploring the more than 950 acres of Shelby Bottoms Greenway and 336 acres of adjacent Shelby Park.
— Offers a wide range of free public nature and environmental education programs, school field trips, educator training workshops, outdoor recreation programs, individual and group volunteer opportunities, student internship possibilities, Girl and Boy Scout programs, and other special activities for people of all ages.
—Serves as a natural history and education reference center for individuals and groups.
—Promotes and serves as a resource for organic and urban community gardening, rain gardening and “green” building.
Offers a Nashville B-Cycle station at which residents and visitors of Nashville can rent a bike to ride on the Shelby Bottoms and other connected Greenways and bike lanes.
