With a string of hot-shot chefs and sommeliers leading the way, The Catbird Seat has changed everything for Nashville dining upon opening in 2011. In a word, it has been and remains a sensation. Certainly no new or established restaurant has garnered such national media attention in such a relatively short period of time. You’ll need a reservation — they’re taken 30 days out — for the pricey (although relatively bargain-priced by big-city standards) for the multi-course small plates tasting menu, which changes nightly. From the Strategic Hospitality ownership group headed by brothers Ben and Max Goldberg (which also own the downstairs faux-speakeasy cocktail bar The Patterson House), the aptly named The Catbird Seat features counter seating surrounding the U-shaped kitchen. All the better to watch, and chat with the talented chefs. As for the food, expect creations that draw from the chefs’ expertise in sourcing and technique. Set aside two and a half to three hours for the experience, and definitely partake in a beverage flight.

Full bar. Serving dinner 5:30-9 pm Wed-Sat. Closed Sun-Tue.
