A Canadian artist living in Nashville, Doris Wasserman grew up near the largest known collection of First Nations’ rock carvings in Canada.  The language in her paintings is rooted in a fascination with symbolism, a deep respect for those who first left their marks on this land, and her own inherent desire to create and be witnessed through the marks she makes. As she paints, she builds layer upon layer, creating a subliminal narrative within each painting. Washes of color and intuitive marks made with graphite, charcoal, brushes, sticks, and other utensils are characteristic of her work.

Doris was awarded the top prize of “Pitch Perfect” in the 2015 “Periscope” program of the Arts & Business Council of Greater Nashville and her paintings appear on Trisha Yearwood’s “Southern Kitchen” Food Network show. Watch for her “Flying Solo” exhibition at the Nashville International Airport in December 2016 – February 2017. Her work is in the collections of Vanderbilt University and the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum in Nashville, as well as private collections in the U. S., Canada and Australia. As Gallery Director for The Harpeth Hall School, she curates five exhibitions each year.
