Kathleen is excited to be teaching in Nashville. A local performer and teacher, Kathleen is currently teaching voice lessons privately in Green Hills and singing around town with various groups and with her husband, pianist/vibraphonist James Westfall. Kathleen earned her Masters Degree in Vocal Performance from The State University of New York at Stony Brook in 2008 and her Doctorate Degree in Vocal Pedagogy from the University of Southern Mississippi in 2012. From 2012 through the fall of 2014 she founded and directed The 9th Ward Opera Company in New Orleans. She has ten years of experience teaching voice privately, to students in grades K-12, and at the university level.
She truly enjoys working with singers and helping them to develop their unique voices. There is never a dull moment during Kathleen’s lessons because she believes that the amount of energy a teacher gives during a lesson is reciprocated by the student. Among the most satisfying teaching experiences for her have been the studio-wide workshops she has lead on healthy singing techniques in contemporary commercial music styles. Please see her resume for her qualifications. Westfall focuses on developing the voice in a fun, healthy, and artistic way. Even though Dr. Westfall is a classical singer, she does not expect/encourage her students to sing in that style; she teaches all styles of singing.
Students of Kathleen Westfall are confident and expressive singers. They have a strong understanding of technique that gives them the artistic freedom they desire. They know how to take what is in their hearts and minds and put it into their musical performances with passion and excitement. They love to sing and it shows!
