“Tomorrow is the first blank page of a 365-page book. Write a good one.”  — Brad Paisley, on New Year’s Eve.

Truer words have never been spoken, from one of country music’s wisest and wittiest philosophers. So what and where will you be furiously scribbling in that last page of your 2017 book? Away-from-the-TV options range from an abundance of great music — much of it suitable for dancing the night away — along with parties galore, smaller neighborhood cocktail-bar celebrations, movies, and the closing night of Cheekwood’s spectacular Holiday LIGHTS display. Below is a sampling of some of the options for this Nashville New Year’s Eve.

— This is Music City, after all. Brad Paisley won’t be with us this New Year’s Eve at Nashville’s annual free-admission Jack Daniel’s Music City Midnight New Year’s Eve celebration at Bicentennial Mall, complete with confetti, fireworks, and the Music Note Drop at the stroke of midnight. That’s reserved for his buddy and fellow guitar-shredding country superstar Keith Urban. The concert’s undercard deserves special mention: young country sensation Maren Morris, Carly Pearce, Jonny P. Larkin Poe, local treasures the Fisk Jubilee Singers, capped by power pop icons and Rock & Roll Hall of Famers Cheap Trick, which counts bass player Tom Peterson as a Nashville resident. (Cheap Trick fans know to get close enough to the stage to perhaps catch one of the flying guitar picks from lead guitarist Rick Nielsen.) A cozy Pop-up British Airways pub will be open throughout the festivities, complete with British spirits, memorabilia and a commemorative photo booth and green screen to transport guests to London through several classic backdrops. Mayor Megan Barry and English rocker Peter Frampton will also lead a a 6pm CST/Midnight U.K. time countdown to celebrate.

Bridgestone Arena. Jimmy Buffett & the Coral Reefers Band with Huey Lewis & The News bring their feel-good, fun-loving party to the arena.
