Ascend Amphitheater to Open July 30; Eric Church, Chicago and Earth, Wind and Fire Among First Shows

Nashville’ s new downtown ampitheater now has a name, Ascend Amphitheater, and an opening weekend, July 30 with Eric Church and August 1 with Chicago and Earth, Wind and Fire, it was announced this afternoon by Mayor Karl Dean and other city officials a few blocks away at the Schermerhorn Symphony Center. Concert Promoter Live Nation will manage the amphitheater, which is sandwiched between the John Seigenthaler Pedestrian Bridge and the Korean Veterans Memorial Bridge along the waterfront. Ascend Federal Credit Union has the naming rights. Church’s show will be a solo acoustic and intimate affair, and go will on sale at Ticketmaster next Thursday, Apr. 30 at 10:00 a.m. (CT). The fan club pre-sale will begin at 10 a.m. local time on Tuesday, April 28, also at Ticketmaster.  Other acts announced include Counting Crows, Steely Dan, The Smashing Pumpkins, Peter Frampton, Cheap Trick, Idina Menzel and Old Crow Medicine Show. According to the official announcement, the venue will be operated “in conjunction with Nashville’s 10 acre Riverfront Park that is open to the public year-round.”

“The park includes a 1.5 acre lawn known as ‘The Green,'” the announcement continues, “over one mile of multi-use greenway, trails, ornamental gardens, Nashville’s first downtown dog park, WiFi access, and exercise ad sports facilities, including two basketball half courts.”

A free public open house is scheduled for Sunday, August 2.

The first 20 concerts, with more to be announced soon, and onsale dates are below. All onsale times are 10 a.m., except those with an *, which are 12 p.m.
