For the June Artist Spotlight, we are highlighting Molly Tuttle, an award-winning guitarist and 2018 “Instrumentalist of the Year” of the Americana Music Awards. The 26-year-old just released a new album, When You’re Ready, that came out in April. We will be discussing this new album and asking her about her upcoming performance at this year’s Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival on Thursday, June 13. She will be playing on the Grand Ole Opry stage at That Tent from 6:30pm – 8:30pm.
Thanks for joining us Molly on the NowPlayingNashville Artist Spotlight.
Who or What inspired you to become an Artist?
I always loved music. My dad is a musician and hearing him play when I was a kid inspired me to pick up the guitar.
How did you get started?
My dad was my first music teacher. I started on guitar and he would show me simple melodies and chords. After a few years of playing, I started becoming obsessed with music and began to perform locally in California.
You’re playing Bonnaroo this year with the Grand Ole Opry set. Is it your first time? If so, what are you looking forward to?
This will be my first time at Bonnaroo!! I’m soooo excited to take the stage for the Opry set and I’m already scheming how I can make it back to the fest to enjoy music the rest of the weekend. I really want to see Childish Gambino, Solange, Cardi B and the National but the whole lineup is incredible.
So last year, you were named “Instrumentalist of the Year” at the 2018 Americana Music Awards. How did it feel receiving this award?
It felt really cool! I love the Americana Music Association and so many of my favorite musicians are involved in that every year, so it was a big honor to be recognized.
Molly moved to Nashville in 2015 and co-wrote all 11 tracks featured on her latest album, When You’re Ready, right here in Music City.
You just released your latest album, When You’re Ready. What can fans expect from this new album?
It’s a group of songs I’ve written in the past couple years since my EP came out in 2017. It’s a pretty personal album. Each of the songs has a different emotion and personality, so I think the message of the album is to embrace all parts of life.
What’s your favorite song on this new album?
