Lane-Agri Park/Rutherford County Extension Office

Lane Agri‐Park is a public owned facility and was built from public funds. Therefore the facility is subject to all laws, rules, and regulations governing public property. The Rutherford County Conservation Board has delegated management and administration of the facility and grounds area to the UT‐TSU Extension Office of Rutherford County. The primary purpose of the facility is the advancement of UT‐TSU Extension educational programs and activities for the agricultural and agribusiness community in Rutherford County. Programs and activities for this purpose have priority over any other use of the facility. Programs and activities conducted or sponsored by Rutherford County Extension are not subject for payment of rent. Other Rutherford County Government Departments (including police, fire, schools, etc.) who use the facility for business purposes are not subject to payment of rent. Milky Way Farm

Tennessee's Chocolate Estate Groups of all ages are welcome to enjoy a full tour of Milky Way Farm's elegant twenty-five thousand square foot Manor House. It is also a beautiful location for weddings and other special events, Frank Mars, the founder of Mars Candy, built Milky Way Farm in the early 1930s after the success of his delicious candy bar. It was a showplace with a 20 bedroom Manor House, 30 barns, 70 cottages, champion racehorses, prize cattle, and sheep. The stone and wood work of fine craftsmen still grace the property today. The farm has had several owners through the years that have loved and protected this historic homeplace. In 2010, Charles Jones and his daughter, Lynn Golden, bought the farm and began the work of restoration. They repaired roofs and barns, and placed the front acreage in protected agricultural easement with the help of the Tennessee Land Trust. In 2018, Lynn Golden and her sister Kathryn Hanley purchased the farm and have continued the work of protecting the historic structures and the landscape of Milky Way Farm. They want to be good stewards of this historic landmark, use the farm to honor the God who created its beauty, maintain the legacy of its founder, and re-ignite the pride and fond memories of those who have worked to make the farm a Tennessee treasure. . Today, Milky Way Farm operates as a special event and corporate meeting facility, hosting weddings, tours, and various public and private events throughout the year. The historic property spans over 1,100 acres of pastures and rolling hills with a few choice spots to take in a view for miles. If you have never tasted the difference that fresh makes, then you are in for a treat. Not only are the fruits and vegetables fresh and locally grown, our other products are not from a big mass producer, but a small regional farm producer. Our store is generally open from mid-June until early November (depends on the weather). Nashville Farmers' Market

The Nashville Farmers' Market, founded in the early 1800s, is located in the urban core of downtown Nashville adjacent to the Tennessee State Museum and Bicentennial Mall State Park. The year-round Market provides retail space to farmers, artisans, nonprofits and small businesses. Our facility includes two covered open-air sheds, a container farm, a greenhouse micro greens farm, a 24,000 square-foot garden center, a culinary incubation center and an international food hall that includes some two-dozen restaurants and shops. The Market offers monthly chef-led cooking demonstrations, community workshops and free on-site two-hour parking for Market patrons. The Nashville Farmers' Market also operates two neighborhood markets: the Vanderbilt Farmers' Market and the Azafran Park Farmers' Market. Shade Tree Farm and Orchard

Shade Tree Farm: After being raised on a Robertson County farm, Tom Head fulfilled a life-long dream in 1983 and bought a farm. In the early years, he grew dark-fired tobacco, corn and soy beans. Eventually, corn and soy beans were deleted and beef cattle were added. In 2003, Tom added Sarah, a city girl, who was able to fulfill one of her lifelong dreams of living on a farm. Today, the farm produc es feeder calves, apples and other fruit. They strive to be as efficient as possible and produce a high-quality product whether it’s beef or fruit. Sarah and Tom both appreciate and love the land. They still marvel at watching new life unfold every day on the farm. Every season brings something wondrous, showing God’s handiwork in different ways. Calves arriving in the spring, the fruit trees blooming and bearing fruit in the summer and the smell of tobacco firing in the barn in early fall. Then the winter months are spent getting ready to do it all again. That’s life on the farm. Today, Shade Tree Farm has grown to 140 acres. It is home to 48 mama cows and 2 bulls. The original orchard had 90 trees, mostly apple. There are also 50 peach trees and 3 pear trees. In 2009, Tom planted over 100 more trees as well as blueberries. Storytellers Hideaway Farm & Museum Located a short drive west of Nashville on I-40, this was the place Johnny Cash used to escape from public life. Now the Storytellers Hideaway Farm and Museum in Bon Aqua, TN is a must-stop for anyone interested in knowing more about the man behind the country music icon, as well as the region’s rich history. The Museum: This is a loving restoration of a building that Johnny Cash once owned. He was the benefactor of the creation of a little stage here, and supported small intimate concerts for the community – including the “Saturday Night In Hickman County” guitar pulls. The Farm: Revolutionary war hero Andrew Jefferson Ponder received a 500-acre land grant in 1806. He was the first resident in the area, settling the land, and opening a log tavern - Ponder’s Inn. He built a grist mill and general store. In 1823, William B. Ross bought the land from Ponder, who died in 1832. William Loch Weems was born in Maryland, and moved to Hickman County in 1826. In 1837, he bought the property from Ross, as well as the springs up on the hill, and continued buying land until he had 1800 acres. Source: venue website

Our farm is located in Bon Aqua, TN, less than an hour from Nashville, on 78 acres of pasture and forest. We're growing 1.25 acres of vegetables this year and our cows and sheep are on enough pasture to be chewing their cud and maintaining healthy, diverse grass and soils. We are currently focussing on veggies and pastured meats. We aim to create a closed farmstead system where we work in concert with nature to have the smallest impact on the land. We do not use synthetic fertilizers, pesticides, or any other chemical inputs! We believe strongly in using organic, biodynamic and sustainable practices although, organic certification is not in our best interest as we are a very small farm entity.
