Apollo Middle School opened in 1968, in honor of the three astronauts who lost their lives on the Apollo spacecraft just a year earlier. Since its founding, our school has evolved and grown into one that is now known for its diversity, educational rigor, heavy integration of technology and a focus on the arts.
In 2010, Apollo underwent major renovations to add a new wing, nearly doubling the size of the available classrooms. In May 2014, construction began on a brand-new library, funded by former Mayor Karl Dean’s office and in collaboration with the Limitless Libraries program. This $500,000 renovation included adding a classroom, three student production rooms, iPad stations, charging lockers and a full maker space.
