The Frist Art Museum opened in April 2001, and since that time has hosted a spectacular array of art from the region and from around the world.

The museum is currently open four days a week—Thursday, Friday, Saturday, 10am-5:30pm, and Sunday, 1pm-5:30pm. Martin ArtQuest (MAQ) will be open Thursday–Sunday from 1pm to 5pm each day. Request your free MAQ ticket at Guest Services when you arrive at the museum. MAQ tickets are issued on a first-come, first-served basis. MAQ is operating at reduced capacity, so there may be a modest wait. Masks or face coverings are required for guests ages two and older. All visitors to the interactive space are required to hand sanitize before entering the space.

While advance tickets are no longer required, they will continue to be available through the Frist Art Museum’s website as a convenience to their guests. Walk-up admission is also now available each day the museum is open.

Guests may purchase tickets in advance online or on-site when they arrive at the museum (open Thursdays through Sundays). Tickets are limited to maintain capacity recommendations from the Association of Art Museum Directors.

COVID-19 UPDATES & INFORMATION

Our Response to COVID-19:

The Frist Art Museum will reopen June 22 with an initial members-only period. With continued improvement/stability, the exhibition galleries will reopen to the general public on July 1 with required advance timed ticketing.

The higher-touch areas in the building, including the Martin ArtQuest Gallery, café, gift shop, and auditorium will remain closed, and there will be no group tours in the first stage of reopening. Some public programs, such as virtual tours, lectures, and other events, will continue to be offered online-only.

In an effort to create a contactless visitor experience and promote effective physical distancing, advance timed tickets, which allow for scheduled viewing of the exhibitions, will be required and available for purchase exclusively on FristArtMuseum.org during the first stage of the Frist’s reopening.

  • Frist Art Museum members will also need to obtain advance timed tickets at FristArtMuseum.org, but there will be no charge.
  • Members-only hours after the initial June 22–30 members-only stage will be announced in the coming weeks.
  • Advance timed tickets for members will be available starting June 1 for visits between June 22 and 30. Advance timed tickets for the general public will be available for purchase June 22 for visits on July 1 and beyond. Every Monday, reservations for a new week will become available. Advance timed tickets may be purchased up to three weeks in advance. New memberships may also be purchased online.
  • In the first stage, forty tickets will be available every half-hour (80 per hour) without exceeding a 176-guest limit in the combined gallery space of 21,000 square feet, a ratio recommended by the Association of Art Museum Directors and aligned with Metro Nashville’s guidelines of opening entertainment and cultural venues.
  • Complimentary “Be Our Guest” vouchers and other complimentary tickets that have been distributed cannot be accepted during the first stage of reopening.
  • All group tours (including docent-led and self-guided) are suspended during the first stage of reopening.
  • The museum's standard hours of operation will remain the same, with one exception: on Thursdays, they will close at 5:30pm instead of 9pm.

After the initial members-only reopening period concludes on June 30, the Frist Art Museum will offer members dedicated hours on Thursdays and Saturdays starting Thursday, July 2. These temporary members-only hours will be on Thursdays from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. and Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. to noon through Saturday, September 5. J.M.W. Turner: Quest for the Sublime closes Monday, September 7. Advance timed tickets will still be required and are available at FristArtMuseum.org/tickets.
